This is Feel Good Keine

(Title is a reference to this song.)

Yes, I know it’s only Stage 3 and it’s only Normal difficulty. And yes, I know Keine reappears in her stronger form in a later stage and caves your skull in or something. But I could never beat Gradius as a child. My reflexes are pathetic. Samukun, an experienced player of curtain fire shooters, told me that to beat these games, I need two (three on higher difficulties) of the following: luck, reflexes, and memorization. I’m a lucky person and have good memory, so who needs reflexes?

After 280 tries over the course of a few weekends, I have this stage memorized to death, and can just rely on my own spells to escape those enemy attacks where reflexes are necessary. And sometimes I get lucky enough for a no-hit, no-spell clear, as shown below. Something about this game just keeps me trying and trying. Is this what courting a tsundere is like? I’ve probably played this game enough to recoup my importing it through Himeyashop.

Now on to stage 4.

This makes me kind of want to play some Tohou games too…

Same here… Is it worth going back to the first windows game and playing through all of them, or should I just grab whichever I can find and give it a try.

I’d definitely recommend Imperishable Night first as it’s probably overall the best and by far the most comprehensive game and then if you hunger for more, get Subterranean Animism, which is the newest one and has some cool new effects but is much harder.

When I look at the replay I think I notice a lack of focus mode usage. If you can dodge tight patterns unfocused, good for you, but I think you’ll avoid more deaths by just using focus mode more.

I haven’t played Touhou games for a while now but I used to be able to beat Imperishable Night (both routes) on normal without much trouble but Subterranean Animism kicks my ass already in stage 5 and I can only beat the game on easy.
