Fairy Wars – First Impressions

So my copy of Fairy Wars arrived in the mail last Friday, and I had to play it. I didn’t have much time to give it because of homework, so I did a few runs on Easy Mode.

So far I’m loving the freezing mechanic, which balances out the higher bullet density. It also rewards memorization, because you learn the times when it’s best to freeze. On the other hand, I don’t see a Practice Mode, and the music so far is merely “good” instead of “freaking awesome”. Thanks to Makoto Hirasaka, the art looks a lot better though.

It looks pretty sweet and the art is indeed beautiful. The second boss seemed pretty tough for being easy mode and that early in the game. Then again, the second boss (can’t remember the name) of UFO was by far the hardest second boss ever and quite tough, as well.

UFO’s second boss would be Kogasa Tatara. That said, which second boss? You basically choose what order you fight them in.

*heavy voice* ENTIRE TEAM IS SECOND BOSSES!

    Unlock Ex-Stage. Receive Awesome Music.

  4. That freeze attack is pretty awesome, it must be said.

But the image of Cirno that comes in from the left side makes her look fat. Who drew that?

  5. By the way, is Cirno pronounced “Kirno” or “Sirno”?

  6. Sixten says:

Steven: All character portraits in this game are illustrated by Makoto Hirasaka. And “Cirno” name is pronounced like “Chiruno”.

Grats. And yea, first thing I tried was Hard mode (purely out of self-overconfidence), and ZUN had a good surprise there. When each fairy dies, it releases a stream of bullets at you at high speed >.>

idk about you, but after playing FW for a while I feel like having to tap “z” is annoying.

  8. I actually liked Cirno’s plump look.

It makes her little antics even funnier.

There’s no practice mode because Cirno is already the strongest.

    Duh.
