It’s what’s next

After working two straight weekends in a row I was looking forward to the four-day Thanksgiving weekend. I have a lot to be thankful for, particularly the 12 people, as of today, who have bought copies of Fairy Ring. It’s more than I deserve.

I didn’t meet relatives or have a feast this Thanksgiving (in fact, I lost weight) and the plan was to continue Lotus Cobra is Evil.

But The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim interfered with my plans somewhat.

Anyway, I did manage to get some art done, but no cobras.

Apparently there are some things that I would rather do in my spare time than craft the perfect shield to fend off the impassioned speeches of angry dragons. Work has begun on my new Toho doujin, Guns & Roses. There are no characters on the cover this time around, but there are some subtle hints as to which popular Toho character pairing will be featured in the book.

Oh dear. Yeah, it wasn’t very hard to see who it’s going to be …

  2. Gen says:

    Clearly it’s Axl Rose.

  3. Author says:

I think maybe Reisen, due to backstory. No idea about the petals though. The only time I saw those was in Kamichu.

  4. Author says:

Snake is probably Sanae (according to fanart). Again I have no idea what I am talking about here. Wikipedia suggests Kanako, but I hate Wikipedia.

Guns & Roses? Well, the guns must symbolize power and explosions, as well as extreme heat and pressure, which are also symbolized by nuclear fission. The character which represents nuclear weapons is pretty obvious, right?

Then, to the roses. It’s obvious that what you mean is the past tense of ‘rise’, which is ‘rose’ – however, having a plural form of this verb, which is grammatically incorrect, must mean that there are two people who rose. One person who has ‘rose’ from the dead is Yoshika.

Another thing that rises up is a rebellion or revolt – a revolution, if you will. As there are no other major modern revolutions in Gensokyo, the only one must be Kanako’s thwarted industrial revolution.

The two roses must be on the same side, and thus they are fighting against the gun.

tl;dr: I have predicted everything you will write. It will be about Kanako and Yoshika teaming up destroy Mimi-chan before she explodes over Gensokyo.

My guess is Youmu and Reisen, since the sword scabbard has cherry petals and a ghost, while the gun has a rabbit and a crescent moon. I haven’t seen many Youmu x Reisen pairings, but they’ve generally been pretty yuri. I wonder how this one will turn out…

@Author: Thank you! It’s actually at 14 right now.

And for those wondering how G&R is going, I’m still writing the script. I got to about Page 12 before throwing it out and starting over. Admittedly that sucks, but better now than when I’ve actually drawn some pages.

Hey, now. I may be a vociferous critic, but I’m not that angry–

Wait, you meant something else? Carry on, then.

Looking forward to your next work.

One Fairy Ring copy ordered! 😀 Pleeease put a link to where ppl can buy it, somewhere easy to find, here on – after I read this post, I thought “Wait what, can I buy Fairy Ring now?”… I remember reading it as you posted it – wonderful drawing style and cute story! Well, I found the link, and I’m now eagerly awaiting the order (buuut living in Denmark means more than a week of delivery time I guess) ^_^

Keep up the good work 🙂

  10. Sixten says:

@Jakob: Thank you for buying my book. I’m up to Page 20 now of the new version of the script, but writing is hard for me, and whenever I feel like I would rather play Skyrim, I play Skyrim. I’m also working on a new Toho picture unrelated to G&R.

My financial aid refund check just arrived, SO MAKE THAT FIFTEEN!!! (or whatever number you’re up to!) I’ll have to wait til it’s deposited, though.

Do they still offer a free poster? Hope so =3

  12. Leo says:

    Oooh boy.

The shipping costs make it really hard for me to order things outside of my home country but. This is my favorite pairing. When this is finished I’ll make sure to buy it along with Fairy Ring.

  13. Sixten says:

@Leo: Wait, you’re Leo Modesto of Ask Udonge, the best Youmu x Reisen blog not named Tamagoyaki? I was going to ask for your address so I could send you a copy of Guns & Roses when it’s done. I’ll ship it to you myself for free! Note that it won’t be done until the end of Summer 2012.

  15. Author says:

So it’s Youmu after all. Well, I never claimed knowing anything about TouHou.

  16. Leo says:

@Sixten: Oh. Hi there. I wasn’t even aware that you knew my blog existed.
I’m… really flattered, but I don’t know how to feel about getting things for free! I… probably would send you something in return, although I don’t think it’d be as interesting as the stuff KirbyM did.
